SUBTLE BODY HOUR

This class is taught by:

Marina Koyen

I took my first yoga class in 2001 out of curiosity. I remember the feeling I had after this class. My mind was at peace, body felt subtle and light, and I had overall sense of ease and balance. I wanted to cultivate these qualities more in my life, so I decided to make the practice of yoga a part of my everyday routine. Over the years I resonated with the following styles of yoga: Ashtanga Vinyasa, Prana Flow, Viniyoga and Yin Yoga. I was blessed with the opportunity to study with great teachers of these traditions: Shiva Rea, David Svenson, Richard Freeman, Paul Grilley, Paulie Zink. In 2012 I took a training in Universal Yoga with Andrey Lappa in Ukraine. I found home in this tradition. Universal Yoga is a multidimensional system that uses variety of techniques: asana, pranayama, pratyhara, dharana, and mantra to help the practitioner to find balance on all levels of beeing. This system is based on the concept of the mayakoshas - layers of being. According to traditional yoga scripture, we all function with not just one, but several bodies or Maya koshas: physical, energetic, emotional, mental, intellectual, bliss, fluctuating mind (chitta) and karmic layers. Through the practices of Universal Yoga we reach the balance between these layers, within each layer, and between the one and the world. I teach my classes in the tradition of Universal Yoga. They are often designed in a Mandala sequence, which will challenge your body, will invite your mind to stay present and bring you sense of calm and peace. I use mindfulness approach in my teaching; every asana and vinyasa become practice of dharana - concentration. By being here and now we are better able to see the patterns in the mind and body and we see more clearly what doesn't serve us anymore, what is just a habit that can be let go of. My goal as a yoga teacher is through various practices of yoga to help people to be at their optimal level of physical, mental and emotional health.
The class is an invitation to explore the subtle body and the energy currents within. The class weaves together the practice of asana (postures), bandha (energy locks), and pranayama (breathing techniques).
We will start with the sequence of asanas, moving slowly with the breath to open the chest, the shoulders and the hips. The asana practice will prepare the body and the mind for pranayama and the practice of bandhas. The rest of the class will be dedicated to meditation and longer savasana.
You will learn how these powerful practices can change your energy level, calm your mind, allow you to gain more mental focus and clarity and to balance your emotions.
